Mindfulness definition/description. Mindfulness is considered to be the heart of Buddhist meditation, however it’s essence is universal and of deep practical benefit to everyone. What does mindfulness training involve? It involves the deliberate and purposeful attempt to become aware of and fully experience what is happening in our lives from moment to moment in an accepting and non-judgmental way’.
Why? People can become very conditioned to being ‘out’ of this moment due to preoccupation with replay or rehearsal of past and future events, worries or fantasies. Plenty of practice in this way, whether it be conscious or unconscious, then becomes a habit and we may miss many minutes, days even years of our lives not being ‘present’. So much so that simply returning to a natural state of present moment awareness may seem like an arduous challenge. This is why mindfulness training, in the beginning, needs to be deliberate and purposeful. Our residential workshops offer a foundation for the formal and informal practice of mindfulness in daily life, through meditations, education and experience within a supportive structure and environment.
