Dear Friends of La Ville Davy Retreat Centre, Hope you are all doing well. We're having a busy year this year with many attending the various retreats and courses.
The 4 Noble Truths and Eightfold Path in Zen'
We had mild weather for the Buddhist retreat led by Rev Master Hakuun on the weekend of 4th to 6th November. 11 people attended from France and Jersey and the weekend ended with Rev Master Hakuun doing a beautiful and moving lay ordination ceremony for one of the male retreatants.
Voice and Movement Course
21 people from Switzerland, Belgium, France, Spain & Tunisia attended the 'Voix et Geste' course led by Christine Delhaye from 1st-7th August. Christine led Feldenchris workshops in the mornings and the singing in the afternoon and evenings included ancient Greek, Corsican, Indian and Gregorian chant. Miguel a Spanish dance... teacher held a freedance workshop on the Friday evening, everyone was invited including Peter and Mo and Amy and Jessica who kindly volunteered their help for the week. A big thank you to them and to Miriam & Peter who walked the dogs each day for us.
On Saturday evening we were entertained by the course members. The finale found us in the centre of a circle of members doing Gregorian chant, as wild geese arrowed past high above us. It was very moving. Thanks to Christine who is intending to lead a course in English in the near future. - August 2011
We wish to thank Rev Master Hakuun from Throssel Hole Buddhist Abbey for leading two retreats earlier in April. Retreatants were mainly from France with some from England, Holland and Jersey.
In Jersey the Serene Reflection Meditation Buddhist Group is flourishing. Rev Master Myfanwy from Dragon Bell Temple in Exeter the Jersey group monk did an introductory talk last Friday 15th July and 33 attended. Many of the newcomers returned the following day and joined the groups retreat for the morning. Afterwards 14 of the regular group members continued the retreat day with a formal lunch, Midday Service and meditation. We finished the day with tea and Rev Master Myfanwy taking questions. The Quaker Meeting House was an ideal venue for this day and the group are searching for a possible venue in Jersey to hold a weekend residential retreat. Currently the Jersey group meet for meditation, ceremonies and tea together on Friday evenings and the third Saturday morning of each month. For further information contact Teresa Tel. Jersey 728257
As many of you may already know Peter and Mo have plans to downsize. So, we are looking for a more manageable sized property, however still intending to offer courses/ and retreats. We will keep you informed of our progress. In the meantime if any of you know people or an organisation who need to buy our retreat centre, please pass on the news. We will be sorry to leave such a good setting, however need to be realistic with our costs and workload. Ideas about other options we could consider are always welcome.
Thanks to all who have offered us help throughout this past year including, Christine and David for house and animal sitting, Amy for offering to help with our August Voice and Movement course. Teresa, Eve and Amy for their kindness and support in offering to come to help if Mo may have needed an operation in January of this year, thankfully this was not needed, however the knowledge of knowing their potential care was a great relief at the time. Thanks to Lies from Holland who gave life to our old seized up sewing machine, we can now take the hems up on the Ikea curtains. To Penny our website designer who has always done a really good job especially with last minute publicity. To all of you who have worked hard in the gardens and centre buildings.
Mindfulness Courses
Bru the dog is doing okay at 15 years old. His great love is his mealtimes and going for very short walks in the garden. He has arthritis in his back legs.
Poppy a very small terrier who followed friends Julie and Andrew back one day from their forest walk and wouldn't leave again, is still as energetic as ever. She enjoys long walks with Freddie an old English Setter who has been living with us for three years next November.

Throssel Hole Buddhist Abbey Is open all year except for pre-published periods. Here men and women have equal status and train together in the Buddhist priesthood. A lay programme is available in which all may participate. A variety of lay services is available, including naming ceremonies for children, marriage ceremonies, cemetery plot and memorial services and spiritual counselling by letter and phone. A special session is held each year for those lay trainees who wish to take Buddhist lay ordination. This is called Jukai and offers the opportunity to formally express wishes to keep the Buddhist Precepts as they have been traditionally handed down over the centuries in this tradition. It includes formal Dharma talks and a variety of beautiful ceremonies. Jukai is the largest event on the yearly calendar and a deeply moving week for both monastic and lay trainees.
