Events/Workshops
Please note that those new to mindfulness training will have the opportunity to attend an introduction and instruction workshop on all of the weekend courses. Therefore beginners will be catered for in all the workshops.
Welcome to the activities we are arranging at La Ville Davy for 2008. Each year we find ourselves able to offer more than the year before because of the interest, encouragement and support we receive. So for 2008 we offer an increase in Buddhist retreats and are grateful that some of these are to be led by Buddhist Monks from the Serene Reflection Meditation Tradition (Soto Zen).
The Mindfulness courses we hope will reflect the challenges we all face in our personal lives, the challenges we face within communities and society and in our relationships with others at a global level.
We welcome those who wish to stay between courses on personal retreat/renewal or just for rest and reflection. We are pleased to continue to offer help where we can for those in need of therapeutic help during their stay.
2008 Events
January 19th-20th Mindfulness Workshop 'To Be or Not to Be' Do we have a choice to live each moment of our lives wholeheartedly? Shakespeare's famous words are used here to bring our attention to being aware of how we can drift away from precious moments. What causes us to ignore the present? Why does it seem that we don't notice what is happening in daily life because we are on 'automatic pilot'. Living each moment wholeheartedly can bring consequences, leading to deepening a sense of happiness, contentment and belonging. First we need to take a deliberate step to let go of the way we relate to the conditional aspects and subsequent habits of our minds. This is a condensed weekend of mindful living, with practical instruction and experience. There are training materials and information provided in order that you have enough information to start with a good foundation for daily practice at home.

May 10th-11th Mindfulness Workshop Being with Emotions As human beings we naturally experience many emotions. In difficult times may feel overwhelmed by the turbulent whirlwinds of feelings and associated thoughts. During these times we can be vulnerable to being governed by our emotions, with a reactivity that can cause us further suffering. Mindfulness training can help us to bring awareness and understanding to our emotions in a way which transforms our reactivity into helping ourselves to respond wisely. This does not deny that our emotions exist, however brings an acceptance as they arise, without attachment, without judgement. Mindfulness practice offers us the chance to experience being free to choose what we truly need to do as opposed to being 'fuelled' by uncontrollable reactivity.

July 5th-6th Mindfulness Workshop Living with Change & Loss We all experience changes and often these changes are difficult to come to terms with particularly when we loose those close to us. The natural transitions of life which are out of our control can be hard to move through. In addition we may suffer change with relations, growing children, work and home life. Whatever the conditions we happen to be in, the way in which we perceive and relate to these things will depend on the consequences that follow. This workshop will help you experience and explore how being mindful and aware of life can help you to help yourself through the obstacles which challenge our minds.
