Programme 2010

Friday evening 29th-Sunday 31st January
Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Weekend
Due to weather conditions towards the end of 2009, some people could not attend 2 of our weekend courses relating to this subject. Therefore this weekend offers the opportunity to look into stress reactivity and how our relationship with this can perpetuate further suffering in our body/mind through worry, anxiety and some physical malfunctions. We explore how each of us can turn around and help maintain a way of life which is still and active in response to daily life and the challenges it can bring.

26th to 28th February 2010

Mindfulness & Behavioural Weekend: Living with Fear
(Understanding & Coping with Worry & Anxiety)

Fears & anxieties can become overwhelming and cause us to worry or avoid certain situations. This can lead to feelings of endless worry and search for reassurance. This workshop is led by Peter Henderson who has many years of experience working with people who have suffered from fears & anxieties involving many conditions and situations. He trained under the guidance of Professor Isaac Marks an internationally recognised authority on the treatment of fear and anxiety. His unique blend of a mindfulness meditative and a behavioural approach offers the opportunity to learn to live with the feelings, develop understanding and choose to take helpful actions which can lead to freedom from being driven by our emotions and feelings.

The Platform Sutra or the Sutra of Hui Neng is a Buddhist scripture composed in China. It is one of the seminal texts in the Chan/Zen schools. It centres on discourses given at Shao Zhou Temple attributed to the Sixth Patriarch Hui Neng. Key topics of this discourse are immediate enlightenment, the direct perception of one's true nature and the unity in essence of being free from attachment, non-dualism and wisdom.

7th – 9th May 2010

'Mindfulness: The Development of Practice & Teaching'

This workshop is to support people who are using, or wishing to adopt mindfulness based approaches in their work. Developing your own personal practice and teaching mindfulness is a lifetimes work. It is a process, which is never-ending. In Europe there are currently no formal qualifications or certifications which regulate good practice with mindfulness based approaches. This requires each of us working in these fields to inquire deeply into our own practice and to continuously question our own integrity and intentions. To be aware of the boundaries of our skills and to share our understanding is important to the development of good practice. Our intention is to offer two workshops each year for this purpose.  For further information and description please contact us

Zazen Day led by Guy Mokuho Mercier
Born in Paris in 1946, Guy Mercier practiced zazen for the first time with Master Deshimaru in 1973 and accepted to become his disciple in March 1976 by asking him for the monk ordination. That same year, he was registered as a dendoshi (missionary) with the Sotoshu Shumucho. Since then, he has actively participated in the life of the sangha, organizing the summer camps, taking responsibility for the kitchen (tenzo) in 1977 and 1978 at Val d’Isère, then helping the set up La Gendronnière in 1979-80.
After Master Deshimaru’s death, he remained active in the Paris sangha. From 1986 to 1991, he was again tenzo at La Gendronnière, where he lived from 1991 to 1997. While there he oversaw major roadwork and brought all the buildings up to European security standards.Today he is the treasurer of the IZA and head of the Tours Dojo, and leads sesshin in France and abroad.
